Day 9: How to Plan for Your Family

Just as we have written our vision and set our personal goals for 2024, it’s time to do the same with our families. Four types of goals to consider when creating your family’s vision and goals are physical, emotional, spiritual, and financial.

Physical Goals

“You surely know that your body is a temple where the Holy Spirit lives.” 1 Corinthians 6:19

Your physical health and that of your family members are important. Work on implementing exercise into your daily routines, eating healthier, and reducing fried food, takeout, and sugar. Make sure to take vitamins as your doctor recommends and any necessary medications. Let’s be more health conscious of what we do and put into our bodies.

Emotional Goals

“If a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand.” Mark 3:25

Make space to communicate effectively. We must not discard [respectful] communication because holding in feelings and words will only build resentment, bitterness, and even anger. Open yourself up to each other and create space for others to communicate in a loving way that helps and uplifts. Take mental health seriously. Try family therapy if needed and seek God on how to create a peaceful space within your family.

Spiritual Goals

“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:33

If you haven’t already, click here to read How to Go Deeper in God. A personal relationship with God is the key to every question you may have about your life. Seek God for who He is and not only for what He can do for you, and everything else will fall into place. Surround yourself with a Godly community by attending church services, participating in a ministry, and forming Godly friendships.

Financial Goals:

“The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.” Proverbs 21:5

Based on your goals, consider how you can do the same for your family. Build a family budget. Ask God for wisdom on how to manage your finances. Do not forget to tithe because “he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully” (2 Corinthians 9:6). Build your savings account and 401K or IRA. Research how to become financially literate so you can work towards increasing your household income.

Day 9 Challenge

Based on your goals, research how to execute them effectively so you can accomplish them all next year.

  1. Physical Goals: What do you want to change regarding your health and eating habits in your family? How will you implement this in 2024?

  2. Emotional Goals: What would you like to change about your family's communication habits? How will you implement this in 2024?

  3. Spiritual Goals: What do you want to change in your relationship with God and within your family? Learn how to do that by reading this post.

  4. Financial Goals: What needs to change regarding spending habits and money management in your family? How will you implement this in 2024?
